Casual Friday — maple seed UAV

UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) have been getting all sorts of press lately, in no small part due to their use in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. And while most to date look like smaller versions of existing flyers (helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft), that doesn’t have to be the case.

Case in point — the Samarai UAV, based on the aerodynamics of a maple seed. Here’s a promo video of what appears to be (at least for the time being) a well put-together prototype (direct link):
