Casual Friday — the Known Universe, in HD

Courtesy of the American Museum of Natural History comes this video taking you to the end of the known universe and back again. It’s somewhat like the classic movie “Powers of Ten” (not so much the Simpsons’ version) but based on an accurate mapping of astronomical objects.

If you like this, you can explore even further on your own — the movie’s based on data from the Hayden Planetarium‘s Digital Universe Atlas. If you go to their download page, you can get a copy of their data and software to explore it with — and it’s all free!
