Happy first birthday — to us!
It’s a bit hard to believe, and I almost missed the date myself, but as of the 5th of February, it’s been exactly one year since I started up this blog.
I can’t speak for anybody but myself, obviously, but it’s been a fun and rewarding ride to date — and I do really appreciate the fact that you’ve come along with me so far. If my server logs are telling me the truth, SOS now has hundreds of listeners (and countless readers!) in over 80 countries — thanks, everybody!
Or, should I say — merci, gracias, spasiba, danke schön, grazie, ashoge, esker mila, mange tak…
I hope you’ve learned a thing or two along the way, I know that I have. An underappreciated aspect of non-specialist blogs & podcasts is that they basically force their hosts to live in “research mode!” Meanwhile, there’s plenty of good material left to talk about, and no shortage of room for readers / listeners — so if you enjoy SOS — please tell your friends!

Thanks for the hard work. I’m thinking about starting my own website geared toward history. You not only helped me pass my science exam for teaching, but also gave em some good ideas about podcasting. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words, and for being SOS readers / listeners!
Matt — if you have any questions or problems when the time comes to set up your website / podcast, drop me a line. I’d be happy to help.
